I purchased this domain back into 2003, back when very few Gannicott's that I knew used the net - if any. As a result I never considered the idea that any other Gannicott might want to use it.
However, several years on and there are many more Gannicotts on the net. With that in mind it now seems selfish that I'd use the domain solely for myself.
So, if there are any other Gannicotts out there who want to share the use of this domain with me then feel free to contact me via email.
There are several things that I can think of that you could do with this domain if you wanted to...
I'm happy to run the server that runs this stuff, so if you want to use it all you have to do is be a Gannicott and say so.
The most obvious suggestion is to host a web site. You could host anything from a simple homepage to give you a presence on the net with some links to your Facebook, Twitter, Flickr (etc) account, or you could do something a little more fancy. If you do have fancy in mind - at the time of writing - this site is running on Ubuntu using an Apache 2 web server with PHP 5 and MySQL 5 installed. I'd also be happy to install any software if you wish (eg. Wordpress, so you could run a blog). Given that it's a PC stuck behind our TV using an ADSL connection I can't promise uptime.
Domain wise, you could use pratically anything *.gannicott.co.uk (eg. http://dave.gannicott.co.uk, http://angela.gannicott.co.uk etc).
If you'd like a @gannicott.co.uk email address then I can certainly help with that.
Just let me know and I'll set up an account that's provided by Google. As a result you'll be able to access your email via the gmail web interface, a smart phone (eg. iPhone, Palm Pre, an Android based device etc.) and any client that supports pop or imap (eg. Windows Email - aka Outlook Express).
OpenID is an open standard that allows you to log in to different sites using the same username. I believe that overtime the scope of the standard will expand beyond that premise.
I can quite easily create a gannicott.co.uk OpenID for you. Just let me know your desired username and I'll arrange it.
